More Ideas (Sculpture 4)
I decided to do a series of portraits. I want to keep them simple with form and make the wiring outlines of faces from different angles. But I would like to have at least one portrait look better than the others, like more reformed if you will. With that being said, I think I would need a head of a manniquin at one point to help me sculpt this more detailed or reformed head. Maybe this will be the focal point of the whole series. However, I don't want to take this series too seriously. Meaning I don't want the portraits to be perfect when it comes to portions and where everything should be and look like on the face. I'm going to give my audience a little more credit in figuring out what is going on. I want to approach this project freely that way I can be able to produce as much as possible by May. I'm not going to set a goal of how many I want by then because that just adds pressure so I'm going to do as many as I can in class and outside on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On tuesday I was able to do two simple portrait outlines so I'm guessing when I go for the more detailed and complicated one it will take a bit longer than one day or class period to do it.

Sculpture 4
I can always appreciate simplicity of form and I enjoyed how simple the form of this person self-portrait wire sculpture. I wonder if it is at all identical to the actual sculptors face.
This is an interesting wiring sculputre because I'm intrigued by the structure of the face, neck and upper body of the person. I feel that it is flat when it comes to form giving it a 2-Dimensionality from the side view but the frontal appears to be 3-Dimensional. Maybe because the presentation of it against the white wall gives the person more depth.
I like the presentation of this outline of the subjects profile against a white canvas. The shadows is like an echo of the image and I think the approach of this work is well done. I feel like it is symbolic of a drawing or painting onto a canvas by the wiring being coming out from the edges of it. The connection is brilliant whether than having the wiring flotating in front of the white canvas or just having it on a white wall.
These 3 wiring sculptures of faces give me a sense of direction for my final project due in May. I want to do something along the lines of a self-portrait or a series of profiles of myself and/or family members. I would like to go personal and I like the idea of having the presentation of the wirings connected to on canvases because I think the effect would be tremendous.

Brainstorming
gotta put myself into my work
why am I interested in art - I find it beautiful and appreciative and I'm interested in it because it's like an outlet for me when I was younger.
what is my favorite work - I don't have a favorite work but I know what I like. I like work that can tell a story or has a theme (a series of works) that progresses. I enjoy drawing and photography that are in black and white. Works of sentimental and emotional value that can be dark or have a dark side to them.
favorite artist - Definitely don't have a favorite artist. That's probably my problem right there because I don't know many artists that I can name off the top of my head whose work I enjoy, have seen, remembered, or follow.
why do I do art - Sometimes I do art to express myself with whatever I'm feeling or going through at the moment the work is done. Stuff that I have done have been because of personal things so it's alot of emotion involved in my work. I do art to tell a story. Some stuff that I do I do it because of the beauty I think it shows or I am drawen to the subject for maybe unconscious reasons that I am not aware of but I speaks to me.
Thoughts for my next project
stay with wire. I want to find an old life-size baby doll to help me scale and do the right portions of a mini-person. I'm thinking of doing something along the lines of a self-portrait.
I remember the discussion I had with Santiago about why I do art the day after crit. And I said that I struggle with the ideas for projects. Somethings I think about if getting a BFA and being known as an artist is something I really want to do or can do. I wonder if I'm on the right path. I'm questioning if I want or can do this for the rest of my life.
So for this project I want to do something that is best on being on the right path or not.

Design Ideas (Sculpture #2)
I've been thinking about doing a project about growth. Kind of like the cycle of life but represent that idea with a flower or rose. Maybe have it like an installation piece, perhaps made out of found pieces or even wire again. I want the piece to be big or have it deal with scale or play with scale. I've come across some ideas to get me going...
I'm thinking about just going with wire again as my medium but use chicken wire (or whatever it is called) to help represent form and bring visual interest into the project. I like the idea of having the presentation of the sculpture on the wall to make it look like the flower is growing out of the wall. If I can find anything else to incorporate with the wire that will work well with it and not take away from it I will use it to help create color.

Sculpture project 1
Ideas for 1st project materials: postages, notecards, drawing-construct, wire
City I chose for 1st project was Savannah, GA. The city is known for its architecture and historic buildings. During my research I ran across a sculpture of a girl with here head tilted to the left hold a bowl in each hand but one slightly higher than the other. She is located in the garden of good and evil which is a cemetry, I've heard of it, there is actually a movie named after it called Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil...I've seen it when I was younger.
Decided to go with wire for the material and to construct a sculpture of the girl. Want to find more information about the sculputre and possibly the name of it and the meaning behind it. Here is a picture of the sculpture below...
Here are some wire sculpture examples I have an interest in either doing really tight wiring that's not so detailed or the loose kind of wiring that's a little more detailed in form...
